Game soundtracks

A running list of game soundtracks I keep coming back to.

Highlights

• Hyper Light Drifter — Disasterpeace has been perhaps my all time favorite artist every since Fez. In the HLD soundtrack, Vreeland really pushes all the “eerie dramatic atmospheric glitch” buttons, and a decade later I’m still listening to it daily.
• Streets of Rage 3 - All three soundtracks are great but I love the third the most. Just that it’s FM synthesized makes it interesting, but SoR does things with FM synthesis that nobody has done before or since, and it just sounds insane in the best of ways. Apparently Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima made the music partially algorithmically using lots of randomization to get the chaotic effect. Don’t miss their live show from 2018 where they performed this music live in front of an audience!
• Celeste — Lena Raine created something that perfectly mirrors the emotional arc of the game.
